A free browser-based 2D game asset pipeline

Most pixel tools are just an editor. Pixel Palace is a full 2D game asset suite - drawing, sheets, animation, VFX, levels, UI, audio and data - that runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to install, no account to create, and nothing you make ever leaves your machine; every project is saved locally to your project dashboard. It is free forever, and it is built for indie developers, students and pixel artists who want their whole pipeline in one place.

Free online pixel art editor

The free online pixel art editor is the heart of the suite. Draw sprites with layers, frames and onion skinning, snap to a tidy palette, and export to PNG, a packed sprite sheet, an animated GIF or a PNG sequence. Build custom ramps in the palette maker, or turn a photo into pixel art with the photo-to-pixel converter. It is a genuine pixel art maker for characters, items, tiles and UI, not a stripped-down demo.

Sprite sheet maker

Turn loose frames into a game-ready atlas with the sprite sheet maker: pack individual PNGs into a sprite sheet, preview the animation, or slice an existing sheet back into frames. Define named frames and animation regions with the sprite sheet mapper, and check timing in the sprite sheet player before you export. Sheets export as PNG plus JSON metadata, ready to drop into an engine.

Pixel animation maker

Animate characters two ways. Draw frame-by-frame in the pixel editor, or rig body-part PNGs and keyframe them in the character sprite animator - a cut-out animation tool with easing and onion skin that bakes straight to a sprite sheet or an animated GIF. It is the fast path from a static sprite to a walk cycle, an idle loop or an attack.

Tileset maker and level tools

Build worlds with Tilemap Editor Pro, a browser tileset maker and 2D level editor. Paint multi-layer tilemaps with collision and object layers, then export to the Tiled format and on to your engine. Pair it with sprites drawn in the pixel editor for a complete level, from tiles to props.

Pixel VFX sprite maker

Design game effects with the particle VFX designer: build fire, smoke, sparks and explosions from particle systems, then bake them to a sprite sheet you can play back in-engine. It turns the fiddly job of hand-drawing effect frames into a few sliders and a bake button.

Game UI, icons and HUD sprites

Pixel UI is just pixel art with a job to do. Use the pixel art editor to draw UI buttons, game icons and HUD sprites - beveled buttons, health hearts, coins, inventory slots - at the exact resolution your game needs, then export them as clean PNGs or pack them into a UI sheet with the sprite sheet maker.

Game audio tools

Sound lives here too. Generate retro 8-bit effects - coins, lasers, jumps, explosions - with the SFX generator, then trim, normalise and export music and SFX in the game audio processor or switch formats in the audio converter. Everything exports as WAV or MP3, ready for your project.

Game data and dialogue tools

Wire up the parts that are not art. Design typed game data - items, enemies, weapons, quests - in the game data editor and export it as JSON or CSV, and script branching conversations and quests in the dialogue & quest editor. Your data ships in the same formats your engine already reads.

Private, browser-based, no account

Pixel Palace is a no-account, browser-based workflow by design. There are no installs and no uploads - the tools run client-side and your work is stored in your own browser, which keeps it fast and completely private. Optional Google sign-in only syncs your dashboard across devices if you want it; the tools themselves never require one.

Works with Unity, Godot, Phaser and GameMaker

Everything exports to formats game engines already understand - PNG sprites and sheets, JSON sheet metadata and game data, animated GIF, and WAV or MP3 audio - so assets made in Pixel Palace drop straight into Unity, Godot, Phaser, GameMaker or any 2D engine.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pixel Palace free?

Yes. Pixel Palace is free forever, with no paywall and no limits. Every tool in the suite is free to use.

Does it work in the browser, and do I need an account?

It runs entirely in your browser with nothing to install, and no account is required. Optional Google sign-in only syncs your project dashboard across devices if you choose to use it.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The tools are 100% client-side. Your art, sheets, audio and data stay on your machine, saved in your browser and exported only when you choose.

Can I export sprite sheets and animated GIFs?

Yes. You can export packed sprite sheets (PNG plus JSON), animated GIFs, PNG sequences, and single PNGs from the pixel editor, sprite sheet maker and character animator.

Can I use Pixel Palace with Unity, Godot, Phaser or GameMaker?

Yes. Assets export as PNG, JSON, GIF and WAV or MP3, and tilemaps export to the Tiled format, so they import cleanly into Unity, Godot, Phaser, GameMaker and other 2D engines.

What file formats does Pixel Palace support?

Export formats include PNG, sprite-sheet PNG with JSON metadata, animated GIF, PNG sequence, WAV and MP3 audio, and JSON or CSV game data.

Is Pixel Palace good for indie game development?

Yes. It is built for indie developers, students and pixel artists who want drawing, sheets, animation, VFX, levels, UI, audio and data in one free browser suite instead of juggling separate apps.
