What changed
- The Unreal Engine Marketplace closed into Fab, Epic's combined marketplace (with Sketchfab's store and ArtStation Marketplace following the same consolidation).
- Seller-specific EULAs went away: content on Fab is licensed under Fab's Standard License (with tiers), not whatever terms the individual seller used to attach.
- Free Megascans ended: Epic made the Megascans library free for all users only until the end of 2024, with a claim mechanic - after that, unclaimed content moved to paid licensing on Fab.
Personal vs Professional tier
Fab's Standard License is sold at price tiers. The Personal tier is for individuals and companies below a published revenue/funding threshold; above it, purchases should be made at the Professional tier. The grant is broadly similar - the ceiling is the difference. Which means a growing studio can silently outgrow its own library: assets bought at Personal while you were small remain a question worth answering once you are not.
Record per asset: which tier it was bought at, on which account, with the order ID. Future-you at a due-diligence table will send thanks.
Legacy Marketplace purchases
Purchases made on the old UE Marketplace were migrated into Fab accounts. The applicable terms for a legacy purchase are not necessarily identical to a current Fab listing's - keep the original order records rather than assuming today's listing describes yesterday's deal.
The pre-2025 Megascans claims
The claim deadline created a permanent records problem: what you claimed before the cut-off, and on which account, determines what you can keep using. Studios that claimed aggressively in December 2024 often did it across several artists' personal accounts in a hurry - which is exactly the wrong place for entitlements a client project now depends on.
- Export or screenshot the claimed-asset list from each account that claimed
- Note which claimed assets each project actually uses
- For anything claimed on a personal account, record whose, and consider whether the studio needs its own licence going forward
