From screenplay to shots

Script to Storyboard

Go from a written script to a shot-by-shot storyboard without leaving your browser. Import a screenplay, break scenes into shots, and board every one.

The hardest part of storyboarding is not drawing - it is turning pages of script into a clear list of shots. Storyboard Studio's script-to-storyboard workflow makes that step fast.

How script to storyboard works

  1. Write or import your script. Paste a screenplay or type scene descriptions directly into the browser.
  2. Break scenes into shots. Split each scene into beats and individual shots so nothing gets missed.
  3. Board each shot. Sketch a frame or drop in a reference image for every shot in the sequence.
  4. Add the details. Set camera angle, movement, lens, duration and notes on each frame.
  5. Time it and export. Sequence the frames into an animatic, then export a PDF, image set or shot list.

Keep the script and the board in sync

Working from the script inside the same tool means your shot numbering, scene order and notes stay consistent from screenplay to board to shot list. When the script changes, you can reshape the board around it instead of starting a new document.

From script to animatic

Once every shot is boarded, give each frame a duration and play the sequence back on the animatic timeline. That is the moment a script first starts to feel like a film - you can hear the pacing, catch scenes that run long, and fix the edit before anyone picks up a camera.

Built for film, animation and games

Directors use it to plan coverage from the shooting script. Animators break a sequence into key poses and beats. Game teams turn a cutscene script into a blocked-out previs. Whatever you are making, script-to-storyboard turns words into a plan your whole team can see.
