The challenge

Storyboarding sits in an awkward gap. Paper and pen are fast but impossible to share or time; heavyweight desktop suites are powerful but slow to open, expensive, and tied to one machine. Small teams and solo creators kept telling us the same thing: they wanted to move from a script to a timed animatic quickly, in the browser, without an install or a steep licence.

The hard part is that a storyboard is not just images. It is images plus timing, transitions, mood, and audio, played back in sequence. That is a real editing problem, and doing it smoothly in a browser tab is not trivial.

Our solution

We built Storyboard Studio as a single browser application that carries a project all the way through: arrange frames on a board, set timing, transitions, mood and audio per frame, then play it full-screen or export a self-contained animatic. No install, no plugins, and because it is a PWA it installs to the desktop and keeps working offline.

The interface uses a deliberately cinematic dark and gold theme so it feels like a tool made for film people, not a generic web form.

What we built

  • A frame-based board editor with per-frame timing, transitions, mood and audio
  • Full-screen playback of the sequence as a timed animatic
  • Self-contained animatic export that plays anywhere
  • Script view, timeline and dashboard as a connected workflow
  • Installable PWA with offline support via a versioned service worker
  • Accounts and subscription billing with a 14-day no-card trial

The outcome

The result is a complete script-to-animatic pipeline that runs in any modern browser and installs like a native app. It is live and running on a subscription model, isolated per user, with a free trial so people can try the full workflow before paying.

For us it also became the template for a family of browser-based creative and compliance tools that share the same auth, billing, and offline foundation.
